The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has introduced a pilot initiative called CMPD - SWITCH (Safety Wellness Initiative Towards Community Households) to allocate more resources and investigators to address these crimes. Last year, there were 856 incidents of shootings targeting homes, a troubling increase. Among these, 174 victims sustained gunshot wounds. This rise in shootings has led to a greater number of victims and has a profound impact on the affected communities. These crimes not only lead to personal harm but also create a sense of fear and trauma for everyone living in these areas.

Drive-by shootings targeting homes are unacceptable, and we must "SWITCH" the mindset of those responsible for these crimes. We also need to explore ways to change the mindset of community members and build a path toward enhancing trust while putting an end to gun violence. The trauma caused by these violent acts is felt throughout the community and leaves lasting effects on both adults and children who witness or hear about these events.

To strengthen community trust, the Charlotte Crime Stoppers Program is offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone who provides anonymous tips with details about the identity or whereabouts of suspects involved in these shootings will be eligible for a $500 reward if their information leads to an arrest.

We encourage the community to share vital information by calling the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 704.334.1600 during this campaign.

Together, we can make our neighborhoods safer and work toward ending this senseless violence.
